Thoughts - Violence

Been a lot of talk and attention recently RE: drinking related violence - and rightly so - things are getting out of hand. But I do wonder as to the cause.

Certainly alcohol is central to the problem as without it, the violence wouldn't erupt. But what I don't get is that, if people are that pissed, how on earth do the even manage to throw a punch and hit someone? In the past these flying arms were more likely to miss resulting in the assailant falling to the ground.

So what's changed?

Here's my list of likely sources:

  • Stimulants
    • Ecstasy - seemingly endemic in this generation, could this be acting against the alcohol (which normally acts as a depressant) leading to uninhibited but wildly stimulated people?
    • Caffeine (Red Bull, etc) - Again, drunk like water by kids these days - they're juiced up and ready for action.
  • Steroids
    • Body building is today's religious servitude - and boy are they packing it on - and these kids aren't all about effort without return - so if you're going to work hard, they want outstanding results. What are they adding to themselves to get like this?
  • Sports Medicine
    • ASN and the like are peddling all manner of pre-exercise whacko snacks designed to get you motivated and pumped - so basically another stimulant. How much of this crap are these kids injesting?
My guess is that we're seeing alcohol working in tandem with other elements resulting in the violence. I'm just surprised no one seems to be pursuing this for research?
